چکیده

We report classes of electronic systems that achieve thicknesses, effective elastic moduli, bending stiffnesses, and areal mass densities matched to the epidermis. Unlike traditional wafer-based technologies, laminating such devices onto the skin leads to conformal contact and adequate adhesion based on van der Waals interactions alone, in a manner that is mechanically invisible to the user. We describe systems incorporating electrophysiological, temperature, and strain sensors, as well as transistors, light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, radio frequency inductors, capacitors, oscillators, and rectifying diodes. Solar cells and wireless coils provide options for power supply. We used this type of technology to measure electrical activity produced by the heart, brain, and skeletal muscles and show that the resulting data contain sufficient information for an unusual type of computer game controller.

Epidermal electronics for electromyography: An application to swallowing therapy.

Head and neck cancer treatment alters the anatomy and physiology of patients. Resulting swallowing difficulties can lead to serious health concerns. Surface electromyography (sEMG) is used as an adjuvant to swallowing therapy exercises. sEMG signal collected from the area under the chin provides visual biofeedback from muscle contractions and is used to help patients perform exercises correctly...

Self-adhesive epidermal carbon nanotube electronics for tether-free long-term continuous recording of biosignals

The long-term, continuous, inconspicuous, and noiseless monitoring of bioelectrical signals is critical to the early diagnosis of disease and monitoring health and wellbeing. However, it is a major challenge to record the bioelectrical signals of patients going about their daily lives because of the difficulties of integrating skin-like conducting materials, the measuring system, and medical te...

Epidermal electronics with advanced capabilities in near-field communication.

Epidermal electronics with advanced capabilities in near field communications (NFC) are presented. The systems include stretchable coils and thinned NFC chips on thin, low modulus stretchable adhesives, to allow seamless, conformal contact with the skin and simultaneous capabilities for wireless interfaces to any standard, NFC-enabled smartphone, even under extreme deformation and after/during ...

Stretchability, Conformability, and Low-Cost Manufacture of Epidermal Sensors

Epidermal sensors and electronics represent a class of artificial devices whose thickness, mass density, and mechanical stiffness are well-matched with human epidermis. They can be applied as temporary transfer tattoos on the surface of any part of human body for physiological measurements, electrical or thermal stimulation, as well as wireless communications. Except for comfort and wearability...

Co-occurrence of Angiokeratoma and epidermal nevus: A case report

Several skin conditions have been reported to occur on epidermal nevi, but it seems that co-occurrence of a vascular lesion and an epidermal nevus is a very rare phenomenon. Herein, a 17- year- old female patient who had presented with skin lesions on her thigh since 4 years ago has been reported. The lesions were two oval plaques consisted of multiple brown- tinted, hyperkereratotic papu...

Epidermal nevus associated with Lymphangioma: A case report

Epidermal nevi are cutaneous hamartomas developing from ectoderm and one of their types is verrucous epidermal nevus. During the neonatal period, they are pink or slightly pigmented and velvety. Later, they darken and the surface become more warty. When lesions are distributed on one side of body, it is termed nevus unis lateralis. Lymphangioma is a lymphatic malformation which manifests with f...
